Before we step into the commentary of the New Moon, I wish to share a brief reflection on today’s Mercury–Moon conjunction, a thought I had posted earlier on social media. Perhaps it will serve as a small guiding thread for those who walk this path alongside me.
With the Moon conjunct Mercury in Pisces, heart and mind come together in a gentle, intuitive union, helping us dissolve lingering emotional and mental baggage as we approach the first New Moon of the new cycle in Aries. This is a time to set aside logic and trust the quiet voice of intuition. Empathy becomes a powerful tool, not just for connecting with others, but for healing our own inner wounds. Embracing this conjunction allows us to release what no longer serves us and step into the new cycle with a clear mind and an open heart, ready for fresh experiences.
New Moon in Aries (Bharani) - April 2025
The new lunar cycle for the year, commencing with the New Moon in Bharani Nakshatra in Aries will continue until the Sun’s transit into Aswini Nakshatra (Sidereal Aries) in the year 2026. With Bharani representing transformation and being associated with Yama, the deity of death and judgment, the inherent challenges of this nakshatra can bring about significant pain and hardship, forcing us to confront difficult and transformative experiences. Associated with this Nakshatra are the seemingly contradictory yet interconnected qualities of restraint and unrestrained indulgence, adding depth to its meaning. Given this, it is critically important that we concentrate our efforts and resources on those aspects which clearly define or bolster our progress, rather than diverting our attention to pursuits that would offer no tangible benefit to our advancement. In symbolic terms, the symbol of Bharani, which is representative of the female sexual organ indicates birth. Undeniably, we stand at the threshold of a groundbreaking initiative that promises to redefine or solidify our long-term progress during the next year, impacting the overall scheme of our future plans.
Consistent with the overarching themes, the New Moon in Aries, regardless of its inherent darkness, signifies a time of new beginnings, necessitating preparedness, particularly from a psychological standpoint, to fully embrace the opportunities that this lunar phase presents. Co-teaching Kepler College’s “Working the Moon” class with my friend Tara Aal, she made an insightful comment, one so profound it should be quoted, and it was, “The class starts before the class”. What this implies is that our present journey, despite its apparent novelty, is in actuality deeply connected to past experiences, endowing us with an often-unsuspected degree of readiness and familiarity. It is thus of paramount importance to remain resolute and forge ahead, eschewing any wavering or reconsideration of the chosen path. This period is frustrating due to slow progress; however, rather than halting our progress, we should proceed cautiously at a reduced speed, mindful of the less-than-ideal visibility.
