Astrological Commentary
The New Moon in Taurus in Rohini Nakshatra, with its gentle, earthy energy, signals a much-needed focus on family and financial matters. Ruled by Brahma, the creator god, this Nakshatra’s energy is calm and creative, promising a peaceful and imaginative lunation. Even if you’re not crafting something physical, consider starting something new; a habit, a skill, that will positively impact your daily life, not just in the near future but for years to come. The feeling of accomplishment will be a welcome addition to your day. To ensure progress throughout the year, we must thoughtfully sow seeds during this crucial lunar cycle, carefully assessing the resources needed.
This is the ideal juncture to dedicate attention and resources to establishing and reinforcing material security and stability; seize this moment to solidify your resources and protect your interests. With the Moon exalted in Taurus, a powerful sense of calm and grounded presence washes over us, ensuring we’re ready to act decisively when the moment calls for it. The result is influenced by other factors in the personal charts, and I am open to personal sessions for a more in-depth discussion.
While some people are naturally in sync with their body’s rhythms, eating on time and choosing nourishing meals, others may struggle to keep up with that flow. This New Moon in Taurus, placed in the lush and fertile Rohini nakshatra, offers a gentle invitation to realign with your body. With Mercury also present in Taurus alongside the Sun and Moon, this is a moment where logic and embodiment can meet. It is an ideal time to begin a more mindful eating routine, not from a place of discipline or pressure, but from a deeper understanding of what truly supports your well-being.
For women especially, this period may bring an intuitive pull toward beauty and comfort. Engaging in practices that enhance appearance or create a sense of inner peace may feel more meaningful than usual. If you have been going through harsh menstrual cycles, you may begin to feel some relief as Mars prepares to leave Cancer by June 4. This New Moon can act as a gentle spark that encourages you to take steps that support your health and well-being in feminine matters. In essence, this is a time to nourish yourself, to retreat slightly from the noise and give space for ease to return.
Reconnecting with your body and embracing the sensual comforts of this lunation is one of the key themes of the fortnight. With so much happening in daily life, it is easy to lose focus on small things that could truly restore and sustain you. Let this be a time to come back to those little rituals that make you feel alive. Whether it is a slow meal, a walk in nature, or simply resting without guilt, the emphasis is on staying present with your senses.
This is also a meaningful time to deepen your emotional or romantic connections. The Moon in Taurus naturally heightens our capacity for affection, and when combined with Mercury’s presence, it allows for emotional conversations that are also grounded in clarity. If you are exploring a new connection, it is wise to stay open without over-idealizing. This is a quiet space for allowing heart and mind to work together, rather than one overpowering the other.
Creative or artistic projects may receive a strong boost during this fortnight. Taurus supports slow and steady creation, and the presence of Mercury and the Moon can help you bring ideas into form. Whether it is writing, designing, or planning something of lasting value, this is a wonderful window to invest your energy. We will not see another Mercury-Moon conjunction in Taurus for some time, so this conjunction is a unique opportunity to channel both emotional intelligence and practical insight into your work.
While Taurus is often linked to external abundance, it is also important to consider your inner richness. This is not only about spiritual growth but also about collecting ideas, refining your vision, and gathering resources that support your long-term goals. With the Moon exalted, there is a a good opporunity to draw in what is needed. Let this be a time of anchoring and preparing for the more exciting period ahead when Mercury enters Gemini.
This New Moon asks us to return to what is essential, to rest in what is nourishing, and to cultivate the kind of steadiness that can carry us through the noise of the outer world. Let it be a reminder that tending to your inner garden is just as important as chasing after results.
In this moment, plant the seeds of lasting security and soulful growth that will carry you steadily through every season ahead.
Inward Glance
Epictetus’ Discourses
Book I - Chapter-I - Essence of Chapters 7-9
Epictetus ponders the divine gift of reason, the power to use impressions wisely, a unique human capacity. He defines impressions as our very first encounters with the external world; the immediate sensory data that forms the basis of our perception. Humans, unlike animals whose actions are largely driven by instinct or objects that respond mechanically, possess the unique ability to evaluate, understand, and purposefully choose how to react to their surroundings; this is a process filled with deliberation and subjective interpretation. Central to Stoic philosophy is this faculty of rational thought, for it underpins our capacity for moral action and self-governance.
It’s essential to understand that the gods didn’t give us dominion over our bodies, our circumstances, or other people. However, they granted us something far more valuable, the power to determine our response to every situation, a power that resonated with quiet strength. This ability, the power to choose, is what defines our freedom. While physical limits, social norms, and even fate might seem to box us in, our minds remain free to filter, process and reinterpret the constant stream of sights, sounds and feelings we experience.
Epictetus then reflected on the possibility that the gods had consciously chosen not to bestow certain abilities, perhaps to test the limits of human resilience. He countered that it wasn’t a lack of desire, but the sheer impossibility of the task that prevented it. Our earthly existence, lived within the constraints of our physical forms and the material world, presents natural and unavoidable limitations. The gods, had they wished to, could not have granted us unlimited power over the external world, for our survival hinges on the delicate balance of nature.
Therefore, the core of the message is as follows. True freedom isn’t about manipulating external events; it’s about the internal power to manage our responses to the world’s chaos and unpredictability. Recognising our natural limits, and accepting that we cannot do everything, is crucial for inner peace. The more we try to dominate that which is beyond our grasp, the more we invite frustration and deep unhappiness into our lives. Focusing solely on our internal world, our impressions and judgments, is the path to true freedom; it’s in this realm where we find peace and tranquility, despite external chaos.
This teaching invites us to shift our focus inward, to cultivate self-awareness and mental discipline, accepting the unpredictable nature of the external world. This acceptance isn’t passive resignation; it’s the active choice to live in harmony with reality, focusing on what we can control, “our minds”, a choice that brings inner peace and clarity.
